Well, so much for the thought it might be a quiet deadline day for the Bulls or that they wouldn't be trying to make a push for this year's playoffs.
Credit Arturas Karnisovas for the first big #Wojbomb on Thursday, getting Nikola Vucevic and Al-Farouq Aminu from Orlando in exchange for Wendell Carter, Jr., Otto Porter and two first-round draft picks (2021 and 2023).
Shams, meanwhile, reported that this year's pick is Top-4 protected.
Vucevic is no stranger to NBA fans. The 30-year-old made his second All-Star team this season and is in the middle of a career year. Vucevic is currently averaging 24.5 points, 11.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. His player-efficiency rating of 23.65 ranks 14th in the league.
At 6-foot-11, Vucevic should bring a strong and consistent inside presence the Bulls have lacked all season while providing a perfect complement to LaVine.
That Vucevic can also drain threes doesn't hurt either.
If the Bulls can figure out a way to add Ball before 3 pm, they'll get a premium ball distributor for both of the All-Stars in their lineup. (And boy, is it a great feeling to reference the fact that the Bulls have multiple All-Stars.)
Karnisovas, meanwhile, has clearly put his stamp on this team, moving out two of his predecessor's last big moves. Porter and Carter struggled to stay on the floor the last two seasons and I don't think anyone in Chicago is going to particularly miss them.
Now we wait to see if anything else happens before 3 pm.
